POSITIONS AT BIRDLIFE BOTSWANA

BirdLife Botswana is a Botswana registered Non-Governmental Organisation established in 1980, which aims to conserve birds and important bird habitats, by creating awareness, carrying out research and promoting beneficial relationships between birds and people. BirdLife Botswana has been a partner to BirdLife International since 2000 and its work is organized around four key areas or inter-related pillars, namely; 1) Save Species (Prevent extinctions and Keep common birds common); 2) Conserve Sites and Habitats (Identify, protect, restore and monitor sites and habitats important for birds and other biodiversity); 3) Encourage Ecological Sustainability (Demonstrate and advocate nature’s values) and 4) Promote policies that support sustainability.

Botswana citizens interested in working with us are invited to apply for the positions below;

  1. Programme Manager

Qualifications: At least a Master’s degree in Natural Resources, Conservation Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science or closely related field.

Experience: Those with PhD - At least two years NGO/ parastatal exposure is preferred. Those with Masters qualification: At least 5 years NGO/ parastatal exposure is preferred.

At least a 3 years Class B driver’s licence (Required).

Competencies: Ability/willingness to work beyond stipulated official working hours and weekends. Self-motivated. Ability to work alone and as a team member. Loves nature (key). Willing to travel extensively across the country and outside Botswana.

Expectation: You will oversee and ensure implementation of the organisation’s programmes and projects. You will have to be able and willing to write funding proposals. Supervise project managers and other conservation staff members.

Station: Kasane or Gaborone

  1. Conservation Officer – Projects

Qualifications: At least a Bachelor’s degree in Natural Resources Management or Conservation, Conservation Biology, Ecology or closely related field.

Experience: at least 3-year exposure to NGO/ government/parastatal/ consulting firm environment is required. At least a 3 years Class B driver’s licences (Required).

Competencies: Ability/willingness to work beyond stipulated official working hours and weekends.  Ability to work alone and as a team member. Loves Nature. Willing to travel extensively across the country.

Expectation: you will assist project managers in implementing conservation projects, you may be assigned to lead relatively smaller projects.

Station: Kasane or Gaborone

 

  1. Accountant

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting or closely related accounting field.

Experience: at least 5 years working in a financial or management accounting environment, handling and managing donor funds is an added advantage. At least a 3 years Class B driver’s licences (Required).

Competencies: Ability/willingness to work beyond stipulated official working hours and weekends. Self-motivated. Ability to work alone and as a team. Knowledge of at least 1 accounting software is required. Working knowledge of QuickBooks Accounting Package will be advantageous. You must be able to meet tight deadlines. Highly organized, Attentive to detail, manages time well, Adaptable, Works hard, Learns easily, Creative

Expectation: you will oversee, prepare, organise and manage all financial aspects of the organisation, including meeting financial management expectations of multiple donors.

Station: Gaborone
